It is important to inform your healthcare provider about any prescription or over-the-counter medications you are taking. They can help you make an informed decision about whether Nexium 24HR should be used. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by reducing the amount of acid released in the stomach. Nexium 24HR reduces the amount of acid that the stomach produces by 20 mg. Nexium 24HR can also be used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) caused by an overactive erosive esophageal sphincter (ES) function. This may help relieve symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux. Nexium 24HR can also be used to treat or prevent the recurring and reflux of stomach ulcers. This medication is not recommended for use in the setting of cancer treatment or surgery. Do not take Nexium 24HR if you are allergic to esomeprazole, omeprazole, ranolazine, or any of the ingredients in the capsules. Nexium 24HR may also cause an allergic reaction, which can be signs of a new allergy such as hives, trouble breathing or swelling of the face or lips, difficulty swallowing, or difficulty breathing. If you experience any of these symptoms, stop taking Nexium 24HR and contact your healthcare provider immediately. Do not take Nexium 24HR if you have had a heart attack or stroke within the past 6 months. Do not take Nexium 24HR if you have high blood pressure, have low blood pressure, take a sulfonamide (e.g., antifungal, HIV-1 or AIDS medicine), take any other proton pump inhibitor (PI), take other forms of your medication, take lansoprazole (LoaClans) or other lansoprazole-type drugs, or take other central nervous system (CNS) depressant medications such as trazadol (Deserien, Ion Torrent), alprazolam (Xanax), cimetidine (Tagamet), duloxetine (Cytems), gabapentin (Dexamethasone, Lariam), methadone (Ethcarbamethasone), phenytoin (Dilantin), phenobarbital (Solfactin), phenytoin/clomipramine (Anafranil), phenobarbital/clindamycin (sucralfate), ranitidine (Zantac), or valproic acid (Depakene, Depakote) in your body. Talk with your healthcare provider before using Nexium 24HR if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Esomeprazole may cause diarrhea and stomach upset. If you experience any of these signs of an allergic reaction, stop taking Nexium 24HR and get emergency medical treatment right away. Do not take Nexium 24HR if you are allergic to any other ingredients of the capsules, such as aspirin, other NSAIDs (e.g., naproxen, celecoxib, ibuprofen, levil-lorna-roxin, lorlasteride, meloxicam, melatonin, moxifloxacin, erythromycin, sulfonamide antibiotics), anticoagulants (blood thinners), digoxin (a medicine used to treat heart failure), diet, cold medicine, smoking tobacco, or any other medications. Do not take Nexium 24HR if you have heart disease, have high blood pressure, take nitrates (e.g., amyl nitrite, butyl nitrate, isosorbide, moxifloxacin, and others), have low blood pressure, take certain antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, clarithromycin, and others), take in any form, including tablets and capsules, as directed by your healthcare provider. Do not take Nexium 24HR if you have had a severe intestinal bleeding, severe diarrhea, stomach pain, stomach or intestines ulcers, a heart attack or stroke within the past 6 months, or if you have diabetes or high blood pressure. Do not take Nexium 24HR if you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood pressure for the past 6 months, have high blood sugar, high blood sugar levels (especially during the third trimester of pregnancy), or are over 50 years old.
